Just to start off this post with a little disclaimer….I love my wonderful daughters very much and miss them every day!! But it is a normal process in life that your children will grow up and move on to create their own nuclear family. And I can proudly say that they are both doing very well and being very successful in their new lives with their partners.
Since my husband, Will and I are now empty nesters, our lives have changed dramatically. It has been 26 plus years since we have lived on our own without children in the house. We are having to adjust to living with just the two of us.
And it has been wonderful!!! It is just the two of us now and I was initially a little concerned that we would have forgotten how to be just us again. But my fears were for not…it has been fantastic. I think we are closer now than we have ever been. When we first met and then were newly married before our girls came along, we were too young to appreciate the alone yet together time that we had. Now we are more mature (I hope), we have raised our wonderful girls and have had a lot of amazing experiences together as a family. But now it is time for us to be together just the two of us. I have the opportunity to get to know my husband again as just my husband, not just the father of our children. I had forgotten how amazing he is, how funny, how sweet he is in the midst of the daily business of being parents. We will never stop being parents, but now it is much less of a hands on situation, and we get to sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labours and see our girls grown up and being successful adults. It has been 4 months now and I am loving every minute of being with my sweet baboo!!
If you have kids, or don’t, what stage are you at in your life and relationship with your partner? Cheers, Michele
