I bought this beautiful handmade red with tiny white polka dots dress in a recent thrift haul for only $6.99 at Value Village and it was an additional 30% off on top of that. Who ever made it did a beautiful job of pleating the skirt and pin tucking at the neck line. But unfortunately, they must have been smaller than me through the chest so as you can see from the photo, it doesn’t do up in the back. But I could see the possibilities.
First I turned it inside out and found these two lines of white stitching that were holding the neckline closed. I carefully unpicked the stitches with the seam ripper.
And voila, the dress now does up. And fits me so much better through the chest.
I love the 40s or 50s vibe of this dress and will love wearing it once the weather is better. Thank goodness for a simple no-sew refashion as I just can’t seem to get into sewing right now. What do you think of my refashion? Cheers, Michele
